Remember when you were a child, laughing came so easily. The average child laughs 300 to 500 times a day. While, the average adult laughs 15 times a day. What happened there? As a child you couldn’t wait to be an adult. Now, you are and life may seem a little stale.

When children laugh, they usually have a good belly laugh. Even when adults laugh, they aren’t always using their stomach muscles. Now, ask yourself when was the last time you had a good belly laugh? One where you just couldn’t stop laughing. Laughing just makes you feel good. It’s better than medicine.

  1. It helps activate and relieve your stress response. A good belly laugh fires up and then cools down your stress response. It also increases your heart rate and blood pressure. The result is a good, relaxed feeling.
  2. Stimulates many organs. Laughter stimulates your lungs, heart and muscles. It also increases the endorphins that are released to your brain. You can’t beat an endorphin high. It also enhances your intake of oxygen-rich air.
  3. Soothe tension. Laughter helps stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation. This can help reduce some of the physical symptoms of stress.

Laughter isn’t just a quick fix, it’s also good for the long haul. Here are 2 long-term benefits:

  1. Helps relieve pain. Laughing can actually help your body produce it’s own natural painkillers. And, it doesn’t leave you with a hangover or an addiction.
  2. Improve your immune system. Negative thoughts will only bring you down. They manifest into chemical reactions that can impact your body by bringing more stress into your system, and decreasing your immunity. In contrast, positive thoughts can change this. They release neuropeptides, which help fight stress and possibly a more serious illness.
